Direct Support Professional (DSP)
DSPs provide support to individuals who experience developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. These supports enhance the quality of life of supported individuals and include but are not limited to; hygiene, self-care, motor skills, vocational skills, communication and social skills, behavior self-management, community integration, and recreational and leisure activities.
DSP Responsibilities include:
Promote and implement EPC’ s mission, ensuring that supports delivered prioritize inclusivity, acceptance, and client empowerment.
Provide an environment that promotes person-centered thinking, and an individual's right to choice, respect, and dignity.
Ensure the health and safety of program participants.
Maintain positive relationships with participants, Staff, and others in the community not paid to provide supports.
Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the participant's supports and records. Be able to work unsupervised and alone with the participant(s) supported.
Meet all deadlines and complete detailed daily documentation.
Requirements and Skills:
Be at least 18 years of age.
Be legally eligible to work in the United States
Understand the requirements of maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding individual information.
Pass a State/Federal criminal history check and not be on the list of excluded or debarred providers maintained by the Office of the Inspector General.
Be literate and capable of understanding written and oral orders.
Be able to communicate with individuals, health care providers, case managers, and appropriate others.
Be able to respond to emergency situations at all times that services are being delivered.
Be certified and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid by a recognized training agency within 90
calendar days of employment.
If transporting individuals, have a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record and vehicle insurance in compliance with the laws of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Be able to be certified and maintain certification Oregon Intervention System (OIS).
Pass a pre-employment drug screen for the use of illegal substances.
Able to schedule and coordinate multiple projects and follow through with completion. Utilize excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Be well organized and attentive to detail. Be cooperative and willing to learn.
Be able to operate all related computer applications.
